Rotary provides access to high-quality health care for vulnerable mothers and children, enabling them to have a stronger and longer life. By broadening the availability of quality care, Rotary ensures that mothers and children worldwide have equal opportunities for a healthy future. It is estimated that 5.9 million children under five years old die annually due to malnutrition, insufficient health care, and inadequate sanitation, all of which are preventable.

We have a New District Governor

July 1 begins a new Rotary year.  As is customary, a new year brings new leadership.  As leadership transitions, the baton must be passed.  We are very appreciative of the outstanding leadership that was afforded us by the now Past District Governor Don Fipps.

Assuming the role of District Governor for 2024-2025 is District Governor-Elect Dianne Crawford, a member of the Rotary Club of Southeast San Diego. Dianne was joined by numerous family members at the Governor’s Dinner, with several more attending via Zoom. Her grandson Kingston had the honor of inducting her as the new District Governor.

In keeping with tradition, the outgoing leadership hands over their pin to their successor. Dianne presented her pin to Luis Carranza, the new Governor-Elect; Luis then passed his to Jeb Bakke, the new Governor Designee. The evening concluded with the exchange of club banners.

Dianne's visit to the El Cajon Rotary Club is slated for August 27.  Please mark your calendars now so we can give her a well-attended warm welcome.

Annie Broke Her Leg

The news might sound like a song title, but it's indeed true: Annie Johnston fractured her leg while in Mexico with her sister and a friend. Dave has gone to assist her during this difficult time. Regrettably, due to her condition, he was unable to fly her home, necessitating surgery in Mexico. Fortunately, the surgery was successful. Dave has secured a bed and breakfast for their stay as Annie recuperates and until she can safely travel by air. Annie is handling the situation bravely and has even shared a photo to express her gratitude for everyone's kind thoughts and well-wishes. She assures everyone that she is doing well.

Club Grant Cycle for 2024-25 Begins

The El Cajon Rotary Grant Cycle has commenced. The updated application is now available for members upon request. Sandy will bring the grant application forms to our meeting on July 2 for you to take. Remember, the deadline to submit grant applications is August 15! We will be holding a non-attendance gala to fundraise for this effort.

We aim to award numerous grants with significant amounts to the qualifying and chosen organizations. This year, our non-attendance gala will be supported by donations from club members and any interested individuals in the community. The Foundation has pledged a 3-to-1 match to help us reach a funding amount comparable to that of last year. Contributing early will aid in determining the number of beneficiaries we can support this year. Donations can be made to the El Cajon Foundation by check, or online contributions can be processed through Sandy.
